THE PASSING OF GEORGE HARPER

This comes from Des Vamplew at the DCRA through Mike Lutes

Hi Folks,
George Harper, one of our long standing members passed away in Ottawa peacefully last Thursday, in his 79th year. He is survived by his loving wife Azul, who accompanied George to Bisley in 2010 when he was Commandant of the Canadian Team.
George was a proud serving member of the Canadian Armed Forces for 40 years and during that time enjoyed a very successful shooting career representing Canada on eight Bisley Teams throughout the 1960's and 70's. Besides his position as Commandant he also supported the Bisley team as Adjutant in 2005. Originally from Nova Scotia, George retired in the Ottawa area where he enjoyed dedicating much of his spare time to the day to day activities provided by the National Capital Region Rifle Association (NCRRA), which he especially enjoyed when encouraging new members.
Over the years George achieved many National and International shooting accomplishments that were acknowledged by his induction into the CF Military Hall of Fame and the Nova Scotia Sports Hall of Fame.
When I checked in with John Marshall this week, one of our senior respected members who grew up close to George to ask him for a comment he summed it up the best by saying George did very well throughout his shooting career, but other than that he got his ass whipped as often as the rest of us.........What more can be said from one Master about another.
A celebration of George's life will be held on Friday, February 27, at Heritage Funeral Home, located at 2871 St. Joseph Blvd, Orleans, Ontario, at 10am for a social gathering and a memorial service in the Chapel at 11:30 which will be followed by a reception.
